The Liberation Pond is considered a sacred pond for tortoises. In Chinese traditions, it is believed that the tortoises are symbols of longevity, strength and endurance.

The pond is located in the middle section of the Kek Lok Si Temple complex. If you walk up from the Air Itam market area you will get to the pond after passing the by many stalls along the inclined pedestrian path way.

You will be able to buy some green vegetables like Water Convolvulus or locally known as "kangkong" to feed these tortoises for about RM1 or RM2. There are easily hundreds if not a thousand tortoises living around this pond. You will get to see all sizes and ages of this gentle creatures. And they can really eat.

The Chinese believe that when you release a tortoise to the Liberation Pond you are doing a good deed. So do some good deed today. Feed some tortoises.
