Pagoda of 10,000 Buddhas at Kek Lok Si Temple
The official name is the Kek Lok Si Pagoda is Pagoda of Rama VI. It was built in 1930 and named after the Thai King, Rama VI, who laid the foundation stone of the pagoda.
What's so special about this pagoda?
- It is the largest pagoda in Malaysia
- It combines
- a Chinese octagonal base
- a Thai middle section
- a Burmese upper section
- symbolising the teachings of both Mahayana and Theravada Buddhism.
- This is one of the highlights of any visit to the Kek Lok Si, Penang.
The entrance is located on the right side of the temple complex at the middle section.
To enter the pagoda and ascend the stairways up the 7 storey, just give a donation of RM2 per person. You can remain in the pagoda as long as you want.
As you ascend the step, you can count and get acquainted with all the 10,000 Buddhas displayed on the inner wall of the pagoda.
