Mersing Bus Scams

Malaysia Scams

We probably have more scams today than at anytime in history. Either scammers are getting smarter or their victims are getting sillier. What do you think? Why are there so many scam victims? Is it purely greed that gets them?

Mersing Bus Scams

Who would believe that we have these scams at such an unlikely place as Mersing?

Please be wary if you are traveling by bus to Mersing to catch a the ferry to Tioman island.

Most of the bus drivers are involved in a scam with the travel agents in the town of Mersing. What usually happens is that when the bus arrives at mersing, instead of dropping the passengers at the bus station in Mersing, they are told to alight at a travel agent there.

You will then have to buy the ferry tickets and hotel reservation from the agent at highly inflated prices.

My advice to you is to tell the driver you want to go to the station and not alight at the travel agents office. If you have trouble with the driver, tell him that you are only making a day trip and would not need hotel reservations. Or tell him that you have already booked your rooms.

Check out this site for yourself for the best room rates in Tioman.
