The momentous date had finally arrived. The Union Jack of Britain was lowered exactly at the stroke of midnight on 30th August 1957 on the field of the Selangor Club. The flag of the Federation of Malaya was raised with full glory signifying the independence of a beloved nation.

The honor of raising the flag was done by Tuan Haji Hamzah Alang, witnessed by Tunku Abdul Rahman, Datuk Tan Cheng Lock, Datuk VT Sambanthan and Dato Sardon Jubir.

Thousands of people from all walks of life and races, together with the fighters of independence witness the event with great pride and emotion.
