Penang Utilities
Penang Utilities has one of the best water management system in the world.
It provides potable water to almost 100% of the state, including the rural areas. It is managed by a wholly owned state run holding company, PBA Holdings Bhd.
I am proud to say that we have one of the lowest water rates in the world. It draws its water sources from the following dams and reservoirs:
- Air Itam
- Mengkuang
- Teluk Bahang
- Bukit Panchor
- Cherok Tok Kun
- Waterfall Reservoir
- Guillemard Reservoir
Unlike water, electricity rates are set by the federal government, and supplied by Tenaga National Berhad, the national electricity corporation. Electricity is supplied at 230 V at 50 kHz cycles. Penang received its first electricity supply in 1905.
Telekoms Malaysia Berhad is effectively the sole telephone land line service provider in Malaysia. Cellular telephone is provided by 3 major companies, namely Celcom, Digi and Maxis.
There are now more mobile phone users than fixed telephone line users. The current trend is towards mobile prepaid phone subscription. The average usage per person per month is RM50. The majority of mobile users are teenagers and youths.
Streamyx, a product of Telekoms Malaysia, is currently the leading internet service provider. There is virtually no competition for wired internet. However, broadband wireless internet sees many competitors including, Telekoms Malaysia, Celcom, Maxis and Digi. A few other new companies are starting to offer their services.

I visited the esplanade and there's nothing compare to the one in Kuching City, Sarawak, East Malaysia.
I am sure Penang can do better than just a walkway. …
